“Improvisation in World Music” Workshop
Discover the art of improvisation in world music at this immersive one-day workshop. Led by internationally acclaimed musicians – Grammy-winning bassist and composer Edward Perez, renowned Santoor player and composer Ehsan Matoori, and drummer/percussionist Connor Kent – the workshop also features special guest artists Mina Deris and Maliheh Moradi.
This workshop welcomes musicians and educators aged 18+ from diverse musical backgrounds — including university students, professional and amateur performers, teachers, and teaching artists — with experience in all the styles.
Designed for participants of intermediate and advanced skill levels, the workshop offers an in-depth exploration of unique techniques, cultural influences, and creative processes that shape improvisation. Participants will be divided into three groups, engaging in hands-on sessions where they will collaborate with expert faculty to practice and refine a musical piece.
The day includes rehearsals and masterclasses and culminates in a group performance, with each ensemble showcasing the creativity and skills developed throughout the workshop.
