👩‍🎤 Meet Your Instructor: Katelin Coleman

Katelin Coleman, born in Burnaby, B.C. in 1989, is a distinguished bassoonist with a diverse international career. She studied with Julia Lockhart in Vancouver before continuing her studies with Martin Mangrum and StĂ©phane Levesque at McGill University, where she completed her Bachelor’s in Bassoon Performance in 2012. She later earned her Master’s degree at the Staatlichen Hochschule fĂĽr Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim, Germany, under the guidance of Ole Kristian Dahl.

Katelin has an extensive freelancing career across Europe, performing with renowned orchestras such as the Kammerphilharmonie Mannheim, Heidelberger Sinfoniker, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and Het Gelders Orkest. She has held positions with the Danish Radio National Symphony Orchestra and the Odense Symphony Orchestra, and freelanced with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, and Finnish Radio Orchestra.

Returning to Canada in 2016, she has performed with various ensembles, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera, and the Regina Symphony Orchestra, where she served as acting principal bassoon for the 2022/2023 season.

As a passionate chamber musician, Katelin has collaborated with musicians from the Danish Radio, Malmö Symphony, Copenhagen Philharmonic, and the Loïc Dequidt Ensemble. She is a member of Ventos Wind Quintet in Vancouver and has performed with MuzeWest, Little Chamber, and Redshift Music Society. Katelin is also the founder and artistic director of Artemis Musicians’ Society, a chamber ensemble of professional musicians who are survivors of sexual violence.

With her wealth of experience and dedication to music education, Katelin provides expert instruction that nurtures both technical development and artistic expression.
