4-Session Acting Workshop Series | 12 Hours
This workshop explores the connection between physical awareness, movement, and emotional expression for performers. Through practical exercises, participants will deepen their mind-body connection and learn to use their bodies as powerful tools for storytelling and performance.
Session 1: Discovering Physical Awareness
Goals:
Introduce the importance of body awareness in acting
Teach foundational techniques for body mindfulness
Activities:
Welcome & Introductions
Meet the instructor and fellow participants, and learn why body awareness matters in performance.
Warm-Up Exercises
Gentle stretches, breathing exercises, and flexibility drills to prepare the body and focus the mind.
Mind-Body Connection
Slow movement work inspired by Tai Chi and yoga, plus guided exercises to explore awareness in hands, feet, torso, and other body parts.
Group Reflection
Open discussion to share experiences and ask questions.
Session 2: Coordination & Control
Goals:
Develop physical coordination and spatial awareness
Learn to control body movements with precision
Activities:
Review of Session 1
Brief recap and continuation of awareness practices.
Coordination Exercises
Movement drills using varied rhythms and tempos; balance and spatial exercises like standing on one foot.
Control Techniques
Practice dynamic changes—slow to fast movement, sudden stops, and stillness.
Group Feedback
Group discussion on challenges, discoveries, and insights.
Session 3: Emotional Expression Through Movement
Goals:
Understand the relationship between emotion and body language
Learn techniques for expressing feelings through physicality
Activities:
Recap of Coordination & Control
Short review of movement exercises from prior sessions.
Emotional Movement Practice
Embody basic emotions (joy, sadness, anger) and move toward expressing more nuanced states (excitement, despair).
Improvised Scene Work
Perform short improvised scenes focusing on emotional expression through the body; group reflection on each scene.
Discussion & Q&A
Explore participants’ emotional journeys and address questions.
Session 4: Final Performances & Reflection
