Pico Masaki is a trailblazing singer-songwriter, among the few worldwide to incorporate contemporary elements into the traditional Asian instrument Koto/Guzheng—while singing with it. Her innovative style includes tuning her instrument not only in traditional ways but also in Western scales (Do, Re, Mi), making it possible to explore an expansive repertoire of multicultural sounds.
Pico has performed at renowned events such as the Global Soundscapes Festival presented by the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. Her music fuses folk, Latin, pop, rock, and world traditions, creating a dynamic East-West soundscape that reflects the diversity of the communities she plays for.
Seira Hayakashi is a versatile pianist who studied under Arthur Rowe at the University of Victoria, where she earned her Bachelor of Music. Her musical journey spans both classical and popular genres. She has performed with Cherry Cola, a rock band featuring Tal Bachman (best known for his 1999 hit “She’s So High”), and has accompanied ensembles such as the Sakura Singers in numerous festivals.
Her ability to seamlessly shift between classical precision and the high-energy spirit of rock and pop makes her a powerful complement to Pico’s innovative artistry.
