“Watering Plastic Flowers,” a short animation by Katy Kiany, is the winner of the Jury Honorary Award at the London Film Festival and has been selected by international festivals in Europe and the United States. This short animation portrays a small but pivotal moment in the life of Narges, a 9-year-old girl with big dreams, from a financially struggling family. Before her coming-of-age ceremony, during a conversation with her mother and brother, Narges learns about her father’s decision and the fate that awaits her.
This 9-minute animation will be screened alongside another short by Katy Kiany titled “Second Home,” which has won Best Animation at the Berlin, Chicago, and Vancouver Film Festivals. “Second Home” tells the story of the challenges faced by a newly immigrated Iranian woman in Vancouver. For the first time, all four episodes of this work will be shown in one evening at Zamin Art House.
The total screening time is 40 minutes, followed by a Q&A with the creators of both films.
