Book Reading with Jadi: Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut

Join Jadi Mirmirani for a Saturday-morning conversation about Player Piano, Kurt Vonnegut’s first novel. Something between a book club, a live podcast and a reading, and a fundraiser for students in Iran.

Presented in Farsi / Persian

Where the Money Goes

This is a fundraising event. After venue costs, all proceeds go to students in Iran who need financial support. The funds are handled by Jadi.

Want to give more? Right under the ticket form (or at checkout) you can add a donation of any amount on top of your $15 ticket. You can also donate in person, in cash, at the event.

About the Book

Player Piano (1952) imagines a near-future America where machines run the factories and most people are left with nothing useful to do. Paul Proteus, a rising engineer in the automated city of Ilium, begins to doubt the system he serves. Seventy years on, its questions about automation and human purpose feel closer than ever.

In Persian: the book is available in Persian as «پیانوی خودنواز», translated by Zahra Taravati (Iranketab). We haven’t yet found an online shelf or platform where we can share the translated version.

How the Session Works

Jadi opens with 30 to 40 minutes on the book: the story, the background around it and his own take. Then about 40 minutes of open discussion with everyone in the room.

You are encouraged to read the book before the session to engage in the conversation, but if you didn’t read it, you are still welcome to attend.
