Many traditions, one stage.
Zameen Art Society is a Vancouver non-profit that brings musicians from many cultures to one stage, and invites people of every background to come and listen together.
Who we are
Zameen means “earth” or “land” in Persian. We chose the name because our journeys may begin in different places, but we share the same ground.
We began in 2024 as a small circle of musicians and listeners, many of us immigrants, presenting concerts as the Zeer Art Collective. Word spread from one community to the next, and in September 2025 we incorporated as a British Columbia society, first as Zeer Art Society and, since December 2025, as Zameen Art Society.
On one night the room fills for Persian classical or Kurdish music; on another for Sudanese–Nubian fusion, Bulgarian folk, flamenco, Hindustani classical, jazz or chamber music. The artists are immigrant, diasporic and Canadian-born, and the audiences are as varied as the music.
Our mission
Curate & present concerts
We programme, book and present intimate, seated listening-room concerts throughout the year, from traditional and classical repertoire to new music and cross-cultural collaborations.
Connect artists & audiences
Concerts often include a conversation with the artists and time for audience questions, and our music workshops let listeners go deeper into a tradition.
Build recurring projects
We develop concert series that run over a season, such as Koomeh: A Global Music Mosaic (2026), supported by the City of Vancouver and Creative BC.
Zameen Art Society & Zameen Art House
Two separate organizations that work closely together.
Zameen Art Society
- A registered BC non-profit society with its own board of directors
- Curates the programme and engages the artists
- Presents and organizes the events and recurring projects
Zameen Art House
- The arts venue at 1515 Anderson Street on Granville Island, Vancouver
- Hosts the Society’s events and supports its recurring series and projects
- Run by its own owners and directors, separate from the Society
The two organizations have different directors, but they collaborate closely: the Society curates, and Zameen Art House is the venue that makes these recurring events and projects possible.
Supported by
Zameen Art Society gratefully acknowledges the support of its funders.
